Imo Senator provides palliative for 4,500 indigent people

The senator representing Imo East Senatorial Zone, Ezenwa Onyewuchi, has reaffirmed his commitment to quality representation of the people.

Onyewuchi who expressed concern over the welfare of the people in the face of the ravaging Coronavirus disease also known as COVID-19 is providing food items including tubers of yam, rice, and other consumable food items to cushion the effects of the lockdown declared by the state and federal governments to contain the spread of the disease.

It is expected that about 4, 500 constituents will receive the relief materials. No fewer than 500 indigent people drawn from each of the nine local government areas that make up the zone will benefit from the palliative measures.

The senator added: “Please rest assured that the health and safety of all citizens of Imo East Senatorial District remain my top priority always. Distribution of soap and other hygiene products has commenced for the most vulnerable across the Senatorial Zone.”

While admonishing the people on the need to take preventive measures against the spread of Coronavirus, by complying with the directives issued by the state and federal governments, Onyewuchi emphasized: “In these precarious times, our ability to overcome the challenges associated with COVID-19 will greatly depend on how well we as a nation and community follow instructions from government authorities, health officials and medical experts on preventing the spread of the virus.”

He observed that the virus which originated in China has spread to several parts of the world including Nigeria at an accelerated and unpredictable pace, adding that “Naturally, the looming threat of this pandemic has caused fear, anxiety, distress, and panic among our people.

“In light of the above, I encourage you to imbibe the basic protective measures as a means to safeguard your health and those around you.”

He further admonished the people to maintain physical and social distancing, self-isolate when the need arises and stay at home as directed.
